Isn't there a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words?!? well..lets look at these pictures first... don't you feel sorry for them and realise how fortunate you are?
stop fussing over your appearances for a while and just think of all the poeple in the world with this disease. how do you think they feel? they probably don't care about how their appearance, suffering from the pain, they just want it to be cured.
many people might think that these pictures potrays people cancer(as shown from some results) but it is not!!
....actually these pictures shows people suffering from a disease known as GOITER!
Goiter is actually characterized by an enlargement of the entire thyroid gland or of one of its two lobes(as shown from the pictures above) The most common cause for goitre in the world a deficiency of iodine in the diet. Without enough dietary iodine, your thyroid can't make and release enough of the two essential iodine-containing hormones such as thyroxine and T-3. Thus it enlarges!
Goiter symptoms include:
- Enlargement of your thyroid gland, resulting in swelling of your neck
- A tight feeling in your throat
- Coughing
- Difficulty swallowing (due to compression of the oesophagus/gullet)
- Difficulty breathing (due to compression of the windpipe)
Goiters usually occur within groups of people living in geographical areas with iodine-depleted soil, usually regions away from the sea coast. People in these communities might not get enough iodine in their diet. however, the modern use of iodized table salt in the U.S. prevents this deficiency=)
DID YOU KNOW???
Some Famous Goiter sufferers were President George H. W. Bush and his wife Barbara Bush!
George Herbert Walker Bush (born June 12, 1924) was the 41st President of the United States, serving from 1989 to 1993.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!! PREVENTION IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN CURE!! SO GRAB YOUR MILK NOW AND DRINK 800G EVERYDAY AND YOU STAND TO BE FREE OF OSTEOPOROSIS AND OTHER CALCIUM DEFICIENCY DISEAES!
other calcium deficiency diseases:
1. HYPOCALCEMIA
Basically, Hypocalcemia is a low bood calcium level and occurs when the concentration of free calcium ions in the blood falls below 4.0 mg/dL (dL=one tenth of a liter). The normal concentration of free calcium ions in the blood serum is 4.0-6.0 mg/dL.
Hypoparathyroidism can cause Hypocalcemia by failure to get adequate amounts of calcium or vitamin D in the diet, through the parathyroid gland being unable to make parathyroid hormone, which controls and maintains plasma calcium levels. Thus, hypocalcemia can be independently caused by damage to the parathyroid gland or to the kidneys. Dihydroxyvitamin D stimulates the uptake of calcium from the diet and the mobilization of calcium from the bone. Bone mobilization means the natural process by which the body dissolves part of the bone in the skeleton in order to maintain or raise the levels of plasma calcium ions.
Hypocalcimia can also be caused by consuming toxic levels of phosphate, a constituent of certain enema formulas. An enema is a solution that is used to cleanse the intestines by using a hose inserted into the rectum. Cases of hypocalcemia have been documented where people swallowed enema formulas, or where an enema has been administered to an infant.
If YOU feel numbness or tingling around the mouth or in the hands and feet, and have muscle spasms in the face, feet, and hands, YOU might have severe Hypocalcemia which can also result in depression, memory loss, or hallucinations.
2. HYPOMAGNESIA
It refers to the low plasma magnesium levels and it can also cause hypocalcemia. Hypomagnesemia can occur with alcoholism or with diseases caused by being unable to properly absorb fat. Magnesium is required for parathyroid hormone to maintain plasma calcium levels. Because of this, any disease that results in lowered plasma magnesium levels may also cause hypocalcemia.
HOW CAN YOU PREVENT HYPOCALCEMIA?
- reduce alcohol intake
- eat healthy
- ensure vitamin D and calcium is taken daily through diet or by taking supplements
